Chris H. Lillard was born September 5, 1885, at Rossville, and passed away June 6, 1930, at his home just south of Rossville at the age of 44 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Death came following a short illness of about two weeks duration. He was brought home last week from S.B.A. hospital, where he had been under treatment several days. His family thought him improving until the morning of his death. His death came as a shock to the family as well as to Rossville and community.
He was united in marriage to Jennie Marney, April 3, 1907. To this union two daughters were born, one infant preceding him in death.
Mr. Lillard made his home in Rossville the greatest part of his life. Having been employed by the Oliver Nursery company for many years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jennie Lillard, one daughter, Mrs. Viola Strimple, his mother, Mrs. Mary Lillard, a grandson, Duane Strimple, three brothers, James of Valencia, Rufus of Rossville, Ben of Topeka and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Christian church, conducted by G.G. Horn of Topeka, assisted by Cecil K. Thomas.
The pallbearers were: Roy Hawk, Bill Kessler, Mike Kessler, Leslie Wyatt, Harold Marney, and Tom Dean. He was buried in the Rossville cemetery.
