Mr. Edmond O. Hawks who has been suffering for the past eight or ten weeks with a sort of paralysis, died at his home on the Howerton ranch north of town, last Friday morning at the age of 51 years 4 months and 27 days.
The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church last Sunday afternoon. Revs. John H. Lamb and Colvin Holman officiating. A large number of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed.
Mr. Hawks was born in Lucas County Iowa, on May 24, 1859; he came to Republic County, Kansas, with his parents in 1870; for the past fourteen years he has lived in and near Rossville; he was married on March 4, 1879, to Ida E. Haworth; four children were born to this union, two dying in infancy and two yet survive him.
The deceased leaves to morn [sic] his loss his wife, a son and a daughter, his aged mother, four brothers, three sisters and many friends.
When but a boy Mr. Hawks became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and later became a member of the Friend church and remained a member of that church until his death. |
