Carol J. Bixby, 75, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 30, 2005, at her home. She was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Quenemo, the daughter of Bert L. and Goldie Hoppes Rankin. She had lived in Topeka area since 1933. She was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church. She had worked for Capper Publications in Topeka. She later worked as the cook at Silver Lake Grade School for 11 years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of Silver Lake Senior Citizens Center. She married Robert Tat Bixby on April 16, 1948 in Topeka. Tat preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1999. Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda Kelly and her husband, Richard, Topeka, Cynthia Bixby and her fiance, John Holtgrefe, Leavenworth; her son, Dennis Bixby and his wife, Denise, Tonganoxie; two sisters, Wilma Brown, Longmont, Colo., and Betty Beaver and her husband, Bud, Topeka; her sister-in-law, Dee Rankin, Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Paula Kelly-Frey and her husband, Darrin Frey, Scott Kelly and Amanda Bixby; and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Frey. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Rankin this past February. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Interment will follow in Rossville Cemetery. She will lie in state from 12 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Silver Lake School Library in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, 66608.
