Mr. Wm. Bond, a resident of Shawnee county and Rossville for 49 years, died last Sunday at 5 p.m. at his home in Rossville after being an invalid for the past six years, the last nine months of which he was practically helpless and under the care of a special nurse. All the children were at his bedside when death came.
Funeral services were held Wed-nesday, September 28, at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. H L. Nelson, of Topeka, who was assisted by Rev. Brooks. Interment was made in Rossville cemetery. The pallbearers were, Mr. I. B. Alter, Mr. Chas. Vorhies, Mr. Kent Burrell, Mr. John Kesler, Mr. John Reid, Mr. W. V. Hook
William Bond was born in Tyler county, W. Va., March 18, 1836, being 85 years, 6 mouths and 15 days old at his death. He was married to Miss Elizabeth J. Bond, February 28, 1861 in Tyler county. In 1869 Mr. Bond with his family came to Kansas and remained in Topeka 7 months. In the spring of 1870 he moved to Lyon county and located seven miles north of Emporia, remain¬ing there about 18 months when he returned to Shawnee county, 2 miles north of Topeka and farmed one year. He then moved one mile east of Rossville where he lived one year, moving again to a farm 2 miles southwest of Rossville to remain two years and then to the present Bond home farm west of Rossville in the year of 1876.
Thrift and hard work were the foundation of his prosperity and when Mr. Bond retired in 1905 and moved to Rossville, he was rated one of the most substantial citizens of Rossville township. For many years he was the president of the Rossville State Bank.
In 1907 Mr. Bond satisfied a craving to see some of the world by taking a trip to Europe. In company of Mr. I.H. Hallum of Abilene, they toured in England Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and France and were gone about three months. A portion of the return trip Mr. Bond spent in his old home in Tyler county.
Mr. Bond is survived by his widow and their five children, Mr. Walter Bond of St. Marys, Mr. Henry Bond of Rossville, Mrs. Mary James and Mrs. Una Jamieson, of Topeka Miss Margaret Bond of the home address, 7 grandchildren and 5 great¬grandchildren.
