 | Obituary- Burns, George HOLTON - Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Holton for G. Raymond Burns, 88, Denison. He died Friday, Jan. 6, 1989 at a Holton nursing home.
Mr. Burns was a farmer and stockman in the Mayetta community.
He was born June 2, 1900, near Rossville, the son of Joseph V. and Julia E. Navarre Burns. He attended Rossville schools and lived on a farm west of Mayetta from 1929 to 1985 when he moved to Denison.
Mr. Burns was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Holton. He was married to Lucy Blandin Nov. 1, 1924. She died Nov. 9, 1973. A son, Billie Burns, died in 1934. He was married to Harriett Gile Strawn May 23, 1975, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Philip Burns, Wichita, Edwin Burns, Manhattan, James Burns, Columbus, Ga., and Martin Burns, Holton; three daughters, Mary Carr, Monroe, Ohio, and Theresa Askren and Julia Kennedy, both of Topeka; two stepsons, Robert Strawn, Denison, and Curtis Strawn, Topeka; a stepdaughter, Sarah L. DeVader, Holton; 31 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and 63 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Nursing Home in Holton and sent in care of Farmers State Bank in Circleville, 66416.
