James Donald “J.D.” Conner, 72, Berryton, died Monday, October 14, 1996, at his home.
He was born November 25, 1923, at Bailey (near Marlow), Oklahoma, the son of James Dayton and Alta Jewell McCoy Conner, and had lived in the Oklahoma City area before moving to the Topeka area in 1956.
Mr. Conner was a ceramic tile layer and a sub-contractor for 40 years. He formed Conner Tile and Floor Covering Company in 1961. He retired in 1985.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Thuban KA 19 and the U.S.S. Weeden in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a First-Class Water Tender and was involved in at least six invasions.
He was a former member of the National Clock Association.
On May 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lois Marie Lyon at Oklahoma City, Okla. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Don Conner, Johnson City, TN, and Ron D. Conner Rossville; one daughter, Sharon Marie Smith, Rossville; his mother, Alta Jewell Conner, Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Lucille Ward, Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, Dale Conner, Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family received friends from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Graveside service and interment were at 3:00, Thursday at the Rossville Cemetery.

BERRYTON — James Donald Conner, 72, Berryton, died Monday, Oct. 14, 1996, at his home.
Mr. Conner was a ceramic tile layer and a sub-contractor for more than 40 years before he retired in 1985. He formed Con¬ner Tile and Floor Covering Co. in 1961. Mr. Conner served in the navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
