ST. MARYS—James L. “Jim” Dern, 64, St. Marys, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. Dern had been an air-conditioning and refrigeration technician, and he worked for Topeka State Hospital before he retired. He earlier had ranched with his father in Colorado, and he served in the Air Force.
He was born April 26, 1938, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to George L. and Lucille E. Lilyard Dem. He graduated from Cripple Creek High School in Colorado in 1956. He moved to St. Marys in 1978.
He married Sandra Colosacco on Jan. 21, 1966, in Denver, She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Justin Dern, St. Marys.
Mr. Dern was cremated. Inurnment services will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
