Wilmont F. “Bill” Holz, 82, Rossville, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at his home.
He was born April 16, 1917, in the Wells Creek community south of Belvue in Wabaunsee County, the son of William and Annie Buterfeld Holz.
He had lived in the Rossville community since 1946.
He grew up in the Wells Creek community. He was a plumber and worked for the State of Kansas for many years. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a charter member of 50 years of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, Rossville. He was a member of VFW Post No. 2187, Topeka.
He married Edna Pearl McDermeit April 11, 1946, in Topeka. She died May 1, 1985. He married Gladys Miles on August 12, 1987, at Miami, OK. She survives.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Linda Smith, Harveyville; a stepson, Bill Miles, Burlington; seven stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
His service was Friday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion conducted a graveside service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stormont Vail Hospice or to the donor’s choice, and sent in care of the funeral home. Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys, was in charge of arrangements.

ROSSVILLE — Wilmont F. "Bill’’ Holz, 87, Rossville, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Holz was a plumber, and he had worked for the state of Kansas for many years. He also was an Army veteran of World War ll.
He was born April 16, 1917, in the Wells Creek community south of Belvue, the son of William and Annie Buterfeld Holz. He moved to Rossville in 1946.
Mr. Holz was a 50-year member of the Jimmie Lillard Post Ho. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville, and a member of Post No. 2187 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Topeka.
He married Edna Pearl McDermeit on April 11, 1946, in Topeka. She died May 1, 1985. He later married Gladys Miles on Aug. 12, 1987, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Linda Smitha, Harveyville; a stepson, Bill Miles, Burlington; seven stepgrandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial with military graveside services conducted by Post No. 31 of the American Legion will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Holz will lie in state after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
