Mr. and Mrs. Ignac Horak of Delia quietly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home. Only close relation and friends joined them for the occasion.
Ignac Horak was married to Veronica Hejtmanek on November 8, 1908, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Mr. Horak came to the United States in May, 1912, and Mrs. Horak and their two children followed six months later in November.
They are parents of eight children including one set of twins, Mrs. Rose Davis, Bakerfield, California; Rudy Horak, Taft, California; Albert Horak, Grover City, California; Irene Collett, Camas, Washington; Eddie Horak, Trip City, Ohio; Bennie Horak and Emily Dodge of Delia; and Esther Wehner of Rossville. There are 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Horak worked on the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years and is now retired. He is at present janitor for the Delia Grade School.
Those who helped Mr. and Mrs. Horak observe the anniversary were: Rev. and Mrs. Robert Bough- ton, Mrs. Theresa Hromada of Rossville, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martinek Sr. of Silver Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rosser and Marilyn. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Keller, Mrs. George Olejnik Sr. of Delia, their oldest son Rudy Horak of Taft, California, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dodge and family, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Wehner and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Horak and family. Mrs. Theresa Hromada and Mrs. George Olejnik are sisters of Mrs. Ignac Horak.

Bennie and Sara Horak, Delia, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 5, 1995. They were married on August 5, 1945, in Alma.
Mr. Horak retired from Goodyear and Mrs. Horak recently retired as a school bus driver in the USD 321 School District.
The couple has a son, Don Horak, St Marys; and a daughter, Peggy Jean Workman, Osage City. They have four grandchildren and two great- granddaughters.
A reception will be hosted from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rossville American Legion Post #31 for friends and relatives of the couple. A dance will follow the reception.
The couple requests no gifts.

Benjamin F. “Bennie” Horak, 92, passed away Nov. 27, 2012, at his home in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 24, 1920, near Delia, the son of Ignac and Veronica Hejtmanek Horak. He attended Golden Rod Grade School and started farming for his father after his graduation.
Bennie farmed all his life and started to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in 1961, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Delia Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past master of the Delia Masonic Lodge, the Delia High School Board and Local 307 of the United Rubber Workers. He was a charter member of the Delia Lions Club and had been a 4-H leader. Bennie had been a security guard at the Della missile site. He was a 75-year member of ZCBJ Lodge and a member of the Rossville Senior Center. Mr. Horak was a charter member of the US Bank Silver Elite Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Peggy Jean Workman, April 10, 2007, his twin brother Eddie and brothers Rudy and Elbert and his sister Rose.
He was united in marriage to Sara Stum in August 1945 at Alma. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his son, Don Horak of Della; sisters, Emily Dodge, Irene Collett and Esther Wehner; four grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were Nov. 30 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment followed in the Czech Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delia Presbyterian Church or to the donor’s choice and sent in care of the funeral home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, KS 66536.

Mr. Horak was born and grew up on his parents' farm east of Delia, where he has farmed throughout his life. He retired in 1983 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 21 years of service.
He and his wife, Sara, have been meter readers for Kaw Valley Electric Cooperative in Topeka since 1971.
Their son, Don Horak, lives in Delia, and their daughter, Peggy Workman, lives in Manchester, Ky. They have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
