Luella McConnell
ROSSVILLE — Luella McConnell, 72, Rossville, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1993, at a Topeka hospital.
She was born April 3, 1921, at Colby, the daughter of Clifford and Ethel Spurgeon Beck. She lived in Rossville since 1947 and previously lived in Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma Lee Eddins, May 24, 1981, and a son, Parker VanVIeck, July 13, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Thomas, Rossville, and Mary Kay Niedfeldt, Wamego; three sons, Clifford VanVIeck and Charles VanVIeck, both of Topeka, and Richard VanVIeck, Lucedale, Miss.; three sisters, Wanda Kinzel, Edwardsville, Phyllis Marney, Rossville, and Neva Padgett, Topeka; two brothers, Harold Smith, Salem, Ind., and Lloyd Smith, Denver; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. McConnell will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.
