Mildred Laging, 81, Alma, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at a Wamego hospital.
Mrs. Laging farmed with her husband in the Alma area. She also had worked at Carey’s Hatchery and the Alma Manor.
She was born November 22, 1917, on the family farm in the Wells Creek community southeast of Wamego, the daughter of William F. and Anna Martens Niedfeldt. She graduated from the Wells Creek one-room school.
Mrs. Laging was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Alma, and a former member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Wells Creek. She was a member of the church’s Women’s Guild, the Hendricks Creek Com¬munity Women’s Club, and the District 3 Community Card Club, Alma.
She married Edgar F. Laging April 8, 1940, at Belvue. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Edith Ann Hansen, Moses Lake, WA, LaVonne Marie Shackelford, Rossville, and Judith Kay Buchman, Alta Vista; two sons, William Henry Laging, Broomfield, CO, and Edward James Laging, Harrison, AR; a brother, Marvin Neidfeldt, Belvue; a sister, Esther Pageler, Alma; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her service was Thursday at Peace United Church of Christ, Alma. Burial was in the church cemetery. R.J. Evans-Gentry Funeral Home, Alma, was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to the Peace United Church of Christ, Alma.
