 | Obituary- Mitchell, Walter Silver Lake Resident Dies In Hospital
Walter J. Mitchell, of Silver Lake died Monday in a Topeka hospital. He was born January 14, 1897 at Elmont in Shawnee County and had spent most of his life in the Elmont and Silver Lake communities. He was a wheel inspector for Santa Fe Railway before he retired in September 1962.
He was a member of Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, and Loyal Chapter No. 176, Order of the Eastern Star, both at Silver Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith A. Mitchell at home; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Frey of Silver Lake; a son, Loland E. Mitchell, El Dorado; two sisters, Mrs. Verna Modlin and Violet Mitchell, both of Topeka; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Parker Mortuary in Topeka. The casket will remain closed at the service. Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, will conduct graveside services at Prairie Home Cemetery.
