He was born November 9, 1925, in Delia, the son of Earl C. and Clara E. Mahon Mitchell. He grew up in the Delia community, and lived in the Rossville community the past two years. He attended Stach School and was graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1944. He was a farmer and had lived most of his life in the Delia community until he moved to Rossville. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville. He married Gertrude Dennis on April 26, 1948 in Alma. She survives. A son, Dennis Ray Mitchell, died in 1950. Other survivors include two daughters, Patricia Saracyewski, Topeka, and Donna Conley, Hoyt; three sons, William Mitchell, Jr., Meriden, Dennis Mitchell. Harrodsburg, KY, and Christopher Mitchell, Delia; a sister, Maureen Wilson, O’Fallon, IL; a brother, Jack Mitchell, Delia: 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. A rosary was recited at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church building fund and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
