Oren and Laura Gardner, Silver Lake, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner today.
Hosting the dinner will be their children, Chester and Connie Gardner, and Linda Barnes, all of Topeka; John and Bonnie Stockton, Plainfield, Ill.; and Lisa Gardner and Chaundra Gardner, both of Silver Lake. They have 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Oren Gardner and Laura Reuter were married April 5, 1944, at the home of the bride’s parents in Pillager, Minn. Mr. Gardner is retired from Frisbie Bridge Construction. Mrs. Gardner is retired from home day care.

Laura Rosalie Gardner, age 90, of Silver Lake Ks, formerly of Rossville KS was born on April 28th 1924 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Chester and Harriet (VanScoy) Reuter. On February 11, 2015 Laura peacefully passed away in her sleep at her home surrounded by family.
In April 1944 Laura married Oren Benjamin Gardner in Pillager, Minnesota. They were blessed with 3 children of their own Chet, Linda and Bonnie. Additionally the Gardners adopted Lisa and Chaundra. A beautifully caring couple that deeply loved children, the Gardner’s became loving foster parents to 52 children, mostly under three yrs of age. When Laura retired from being a foster parent, her caring reputation caused her to operate a childcare service in her home in Silver Lake. She provided loving care to many of the teachers children as it was close to the school.
Preceding Laura in death were her husband Oren, her son Chet, her parents, two brothers Phillip Reuter and Donald Reuter, and a great-grandson Isaiah Cairns.
Laura’s survivors include her brother Jim Reuter (wife Margie) of Grantville, sister Ann Carter of Kentucky, daughter’s Linda Barnes of Topeka, Bonnie (John) Stockton of Illinois, Lisa (Tm) Duncan of Willard and Chaundra Scott of Topeka. Laura is also survived by a multitude of Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
Services for this gentle caring Christian were Monday February 16, 2015 at Imago Dei Community Church, Topeka KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Laura Gardner Family US Bank, PO Box 611, Rossville, Kansas 66533.
