ST. MARYS- Retired Sergeant Major George J. Perry, 84, entered eternal peace late Friday, February 29, 2008 at his home in St. Marys surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
Fie was born October 29, 1923 in Oklahoma, the son of William and Sadie Perry. George was raised in St. Marys by Bill and Onie Perry. He graduated from St. Marys High School.
SGM Perry served in the United States Army and upon release from active duty he was assigned to the Army Reserves. He was called back to active duty several times and retired from the Army National Guard in 1983 after serving 40 years in the military. Sergeant Major Perry was inducted into the Kansas National Guard Hall of Fame on 7 November 1993. Following retirement from the military he worked in various capacities for the city of St. Marys until the past several months.
Service to his community was always a high priority for Mr. Perry. He had served as a Reserve Officer for the St. Marys Police Department for several years. George also served on the St. Marys Fire Department for many years and was an Honorary Member of both departments. He was Quartermaster and Founder of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in St. Marys. Mr. Perry was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Aubert-Walls VFW both in St. Marys.

George is survived by his wife, Nadine of the home, sons, Bill 108 Perry and Mike (Tammy) Perry all of Topeka; daughters, Judy (Roy) Muckenthaler, Sandy (Clay) Winters, Nancy Lister and Lori Perry all of St. Marys and Mary Kaye (Tony) Siebert, Wamego. Mr. Perry is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Jackie (Tim) Moylan, Chris Simecka, Michael (Julie) Hiner, Jonathan Hiner, Angela ITiner, Emily (Will) Warnes, Lindsey (Darren) Croley, Ben Siebert, Sara (Heath) Lawson, Kylie Perry, Mitchell Ralph, Chris, Nick and Elizabeth Perry; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. of Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cem4. etery, St. Marys. Mr. Perry will lie in state from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Monday, March 3rd at Piper Funeral Home and after 6:00 3, P.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where there will be a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 P.M. followed by a rosary. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Armory Fund/ future Community Center or Heart of America Hospice and sent in care
of the funeral home.
