In celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Simecka will be honored Sunday. April 28 with an open house in the home of their daughter. Mrs. John Besler. 344 SE Croco Road.
Friends and relatives are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. The couple asks that no gifts be presented.
Hosts will be their children. Mr. and Mrs. Besler; Mr. and Mrs. James Simon, North Bend, Neb.; and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Simecka.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Simecka will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with an anniversary mass at 5 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by a reception and lunch in the church and an anniversary dance at 9 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 39th & Burlingame.
Hosts will be their children: John and Julie Kesler, Topeka; Jim and Jean Simon, Louisville, Neb.; and Jerry and Marcia Simecka. The couple has 14 grandchildren.
Leo Gerald Simecka and Bridget Mary Kennedy were married April 26, 1934, in Emmett. He retired from the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.

Leo and Bridget Simecka, Topeka will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary April 26 with a card shower and a mass at 5 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The couple are the parents of four children, Julie Besler, Topeka; Jean Simon, Louisville, Neb.; and Jerry Simecka, Topeka. A daughter, Lillian Schwerdt, is deceased. They have 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Leo Simecka and Bridget Kennedy were married April 26, 1934, at Holy Cross Church in Emmett. Mr. Simecka retired from Santa Fe Railway in 1972.

Leo Simecka
Leo Gerald Simecka, 92, Topeka, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Simecka taught school at the Stach School that is now a living history piece at the Kansas Museum of Natural History in Topeka and at Delia junior and senior high schools. He also had been a boilermaker for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway from 1942 until he retired in May 1972. He was a lifelong farmer and cat¬tleman in the Delia community. He also sold insurance for Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Co. for many years.
He was born December 1, 1908, in Delia, the son of Joseph and Mary Cander Simecka. He graduated from Delia High School in 1926. He moved to Topeka in 1942.
Mr. Simecka was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 534, James W. Gibbons Assembly of the 4lh Degree, and he was a longtime member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
On April 26, 1934, he married Bridget M. Kennedy in Emmett. She died May 10, 1998. Mr. Simecka also was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Schwerdt, and three grandchildren, Anne Schwerdt, Michael Schwerdt and Thomas Schwerdt, on July 4,1970.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Simecka, Tecumseh; two daughters, Julie Besler, Tecumseh, and Jean Simon Turgeon, Louisville, NE; a brother, Ben Simecka, Silver Lake; three sisters, Eleanor Thompson, Rossville, Josephine Constant, Topeka, and Leona Paulini, Silver Lake; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. A parish rosary was recited Friday and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 recited a rosary and conducted a chalice ceremony. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka was in charge of services.
