Mr. and Mrs. William L. Smith, Rossville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1992, at the Rossville Community Center. Hosts will be their children: William, Jr., and Genita Smith, Dallas, Tex.; Stuart and Diane Smith, Madison, Fla.; Kenneth Smith, Kenneth and Mary Kelly, Randall and Jeanette Vogel, Walter and Julie Smith, all of Topeka. The couple requests no gifts, please.
Bill and Alice have 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
William Smith retired from Goodyear after 40 years of service.

William L. Smith, Sr., 76, Rossville, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at the Rossville Valley Manor.
He was born February 9,1921, in Topeka, the son of Walter and Martha Bearce Smith, and had lived in Rossville many years.
Bill grew up in Topeka, and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps. He was a Western Union Delivery boy, and had been a bus driver in Topeka for several years. He moved to Rossville in 1951. He had been a production foreman at Goodyear in Topeka, retiring in 1979. He was the mayor of Rossville for 14 years, and had served several years on the City Council. He was a member of the Rossville Christian Church. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville, and a member of the Rossville Lions Club.
On May 2, 1942, he was married to Alice Waldo, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Vogel and Mary Kelly, both of Topeka; four sons, William Smith, Jr., Napanee, Ontario, Canada, Walter Smith, Mayetta, Stuart Smith, Topeka, and Kenneth Smith, Emmett; three sisters, Geneva Durkin, Dover, Virginia Hamm, Wichita, and Juanita McCall, Topeka; one brother, Charles Smith, in California; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grand¬children.
The family received friends at
the Rossville Christian Church Monday. His service was at 10:00 Tuesday (this morning) at the Rossville Christian Church. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery.

ROSSVILLE — William L. Smith Sr., 76,
Rossville, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at a nursing home here. He formerly was mayor of Rossville 14 years and had served on the Rossville City Council.
He was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Topeka, the son of Walter and Martha Bearce Smith. He spent his early life in Topeka and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps. He delivered telegrams for Western Union and was a bus driver in Topeka several years.
He moved to Rossville in 1951. He was a production foreman at the Goodyear Plant in Topeka before he retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Christian Church, Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion and the Lions Club, all in Rossville. He was a former member of a Masonic Lodge in Topeka.
He was married to Alice Waldo May 2, 1942, in Topeka. She survives.
