Donald Sommers
VICTORIA — Donald A. Sommers, 48, Victoria, formerly of Delia, died Saturday in a Hays hospital. He apparently had a heart ailment.
He was born May 21, 1927, in Topeka and spent most of his life in the Delia community in Jackson County before he moved to Ellis County about three years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He had been a farmer.
He was married to the former Irene, Peck, who died later. He then was married to Henrietta Mermis. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Donna Sommers, at home; three sons, Donald Sommers, Topeka, and Michael Sommers and Mitchell Sommers, both at home; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Cheryl Fredrichs, Topeka; his mother, Mrs. Rose Sommers, Russell; a sister, Mrs. Betty Lytkowski, Cleveland, Ohio, and two grandsons.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cline's Mortuary at Victoria. The Victoria Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside services at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery at Walker. Mr. Sommers will lie in state Sunday and Monday at the mortuary.
