ACCIDENTAL SHOT KILLS WILLARD FARMER
J.C. Fowler, 60, farmer living on the Jackman place southwest of Willard, accidently shot and killed himself about 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, while out hunting on his farm. Fowler was crossing a field and started to crawl thru a fence with a twelve gauge shotgun. The gun discharged and struck Fowler just below the heart. He died instantly. His son, Jay Fowler, was in Topeka making arrangements for a sale; so he and his father could return to Missouri.
Paul Rogers, with a load of feed, was near the scene when the accident happened and notified the coroner and sheriff at Alma.
It was near 6 o’clock that evening before the latter arrived and permitted the body to be removed. It was taken to the Shellabarger chapel at Topeka.
